The first thing most owners notice when they start shopping for a custom cover is how many things they could put on it. A family name, a build year, a kid’s name, a GPS coordinate from a favorite trail, a paint code that matches the vehicle, a tribute line for someone who used to ride along. Once you start thinking about it, the spare turns into a small space for something personal.
The good news is that essentially all of this is free with the cover itself. The price you pay is for the material grade you choose — not for the design work, not for the typography, not for color matching, not even for the backup camera hole. Personalization is built into how we make these.
The harder part is figuring out what actually looks good on the back of a tire. Long lines of text can fight the artwork. A photo can either elevate the design or compete with it. The shape of the canvas matters — a circle is not a billboard, and what reads from across a parking lot is different from what fits on a business card.
Here is what owners ask us to add most often, the layouts that hold up over years of viewing, and the practical ways to get personalization onto a cover without losing the design.
Personalization options on every cover include adding a name, family name, logo, build year, GPS coordinates, custom tagline, or color match to OEM paint — all at no extra cost. The price is the material grade only; design work, customization, sizing, color matching, and the centered backup-camera hole are included.
What you can add to a cover
- Name or family name — above, below, or beside the main artwork.
- Build year or anniversary date — “Est. 2018,” “Build #043,” “Since 2002.”
- Custom tagline — “The Carter Family Adventures,” “Wherever the road takes you,” and similar.
- Jersey number for sports-tribute covers.
- GPS coordinates of a favorite trail, home base, or campsite.
- Vehicle generation tag — W463A G-Wagon, Wrangler JL, Bronco Sasquatch, and similar.
- Trail-club, fan-club, or RV-park name.
- OEM paint code matching — Granite Crystal, Sting-Gray, designo Manufaktur Magno, and so on.
- Logos — family crest, business logo, military unit, ranch brand.
How to add personalization at checkout
There are two paths through the order form:
- Order notes and customization field. Type your wording, paint code, or any text customization directly into the field. The order form is built for this.
- File upload. For logos, send a vector AI or EPS, or a high-resolution PNG or JPG. We handle all the layout work in-house.
The design team includes the personalization in the free proof. You see exactly how the layout reads before anything goes to print.
Layouts that hold up well over time
- “The Smith Family — Est. 2015” set in a vintage badge layout.
- “Sasquatch — Bronco 2024” in trail-tag style on a Built Wild design.
- “In Memory of Buddy — 2010–2024” below a German Shepherd portrait.
- “Lat 43.4799° N, Long 110.7624° W” (Jackson Hole) on a compass design.
- “PAPA — 3 Generations of Service” on a military tribute.
A few layout principles worth knowing
The cover is a circle, which is a more demanding canvas than a rectangle. The center is the strongest place to anchor a portrait or main mark. Text reads best when it curves with the circle (top or bottom arch) or sits in a clean banner across the middle.
Two lines of short text almost always read better than one long line. Color contrast against the cover background matters more than the size of the type. Our designers handle this in the proof — if a layout will not read well at viewing distance, we say so before it goes to production.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a character limit on the personalization text?
No hard limit. The typography is sized to fit the layout. Very long taglines may need to break across two lines to stay readable from a distance.
Can I personalize a ready-made design from the catalog?
Yes. Choose any of the 1,000+ designs and add your customization in the order notes. The proof comes back with the design and your personalization in place, before anything is printed.
Does personalization change the price or production time?
No price change. Personalization may add a day to the proof turnaround if it involves complex work (logo cleanup, custom typography), but production timing stays the same.
Can I see the proof before paying?
The order is placed first, and the proof is created from the order details. If the proof does not work for you, we revise until it does — nothing prints until you approve it.
