The Defender is the most-recognised expedition vehicle on Earth. Camel Trophy 1980–2000, the British Army's preferred vehicle, the Range Rover's body-on-frame predecessor. The classic Defender 90 / 110 / 130 ran from 1983 to 2016 with the same body silhouette. The modern L663 launched in 2020 with monocoque construction, air suspension, and the same iconic visual presence. Both wear the spare on the rear side-hinged tailgate.

Free backup camera cutout, on every cover
Modern L663 Defenders have factory backup cameras integrated into the rear bumper or side-hinged tailgate. The cover needs a camera-shaped cutout. Choose your material
Defender owners are global, weather-hardened, expedition-experienced. Marine Grade Vinyl is the most-chosen material because Defenders go places:
Polyester — $69 (Budget)
Lifespan 2–3 years. Drawstring cord attachment. Acceptable for daily-driver L663s in mild climates. Drawstring, 2–3 years.
PVC — $99 (Waterproof)
Lifespan 3–4 years. Elastic band attachment. Volume daily-driver pick for L663 S / X / X-Dynamic. Snug elastic.
PU Leather — $129 (Premium look)
Lifespan 3–4 years. Elastic band attachment. Premium grain that suits the L663 X / Outbound trim with the upmarket leather interior.
Marine Grade Vinyl — $169 (Heavy duty, printed and sewn in Florida)
Lifespan 5+ years. Drawstring cord attachment. What we recommend for classic Defender 90 / 110 owners and L663 expedition builds. UV stable, Florida-printed, 5+ years. Default for serious Land Rover use.
Marine Grade Vinyl Lux — $199 (Top spec, printed and sewn in Florida)
Same Marine Grade Vinyl spec plus integrated anti-theft lock — exclusive to Marine Grade Vinyl Lux only. Marine plus integrated anti-theft lock. Worth it on rare classic 90 / 110 collectibles, Defender Works V8 trims, and L663 V8 / Octa.
Materials built for off-road use
| Material | Price | Lifespan | Durability | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyester Budget | $69 | Up to 2 yrs | Daily driver in covered parking or garage. Lightweight, UV-resistant, easy to swap. | |
| PVC Water-resistant | $99 | Up to 3 yrs | Trail rigs and weekend off-road use. Water-resistant, handles mud and brush scratches well. Clean with mild soap and water. | |
| PU Leather Premium look | $129 | Up to 3 yrs | Daily driver with OEM matte-black aesthetics. Best match for factory finishes on Jeep, G-Wagon, and Ford Bronco. | |
| Marine Grade Vinyl Heavy duty | $169 | Up to 5 yrs | Year-round outdoor parking, coastal humidity, desert sun, Arizona heat, sub-zero winters. 1mm heavy-duty construction, our most durable option. | |
| Marine Grade Vinyl + Anti-Theft Kit Top spec | $199 | Up to 5 yrs | Same Marine Grade Vinyl construction as above, with added locking anti-theft hardware. Best for high-visibility parking and long-term outdoor exposure. |
Cleaning note: Pressure washing is not recommended for any Wheel Shell cover, regardless of material. Hand wash with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly, and air dry. Pressure washing can damage the printed surface and shorten cover lifespan.
Color matching note: Matte PU Leather and Marine Grade Vinyl reproduce factory matte black most accurately. Glossy PVC and Polyester read as deep charcoal under direct sun. For OEM paint-match, send your paint code at checkout — we calibrate the print and send a proof before production.
Color matching: Pangea Green X-Dynamic, Gondwana Stone X, Tasman Blue Hard Top, Sedona Red V8 — all in our reference library. Plus the iconic classic-era Sandglow yellow (Camel Trophy livery), Bronze Green, NATO Green, and the rare Atlantis Blue. Send the paint code or photo.
How the cover attaches to your Defender's spare
Classic Defender 90 / 110 / 130 carry the spare on the rear side-hinged tailgate. L663 stows the spare under the cargo floor (or rear-mounted on the optional Adventure Pack carrier). Cover wraps the tire either way:
- Elastic band (PU Leather, PVC): Stretches over the tire and grips behind the tread for a snug, factory-style fit.
- Drawstring cord (Polyester, Marine Grade Vinyl, Marine Grade Vinyl Lux): Wraps over the tire and tightens with a drawcord. Adjustable for any spare diameter.
Classic Defender owners with chequer-plate or steel-spare carriers: cover sits on the tire, not the carrier. Same spec works regardless of carrier finish.

Frequently asked questions about Land Rover Defender spare tire covers
What size cover do I need for my classic Defender 90?
Stock 90 is 7.50R16 (30 inches), 235/85R16 (31.7 inches), or 265/75R16 LT on lifted spec (31.6 inches). Many classic Defenders are now on 33×12.50R16 muds for expedition use. Custom sizing free.
And the modern L663 Defender 110?
L663 S / X runs 255/65R19 (32.1 inches), X-Dynamic runs 255/60R20 (32 inches), V8 / Octa runs 275/45R22 (31.7 inches). All in standard sizing.
Will the cover fit a Defender 130 (classic or L663)?
Yes — 130 shares spare specs with 110 by trim / generation. Classic 130 on 7.50R16 (30 inches) or 235/85R16 (31.7 inches), L663 130 same as L663 110 by trim.
Can I match the cover to Sandglow (Camel Trophy livery)?
Yes — Sandglow 690 is in our reference library. We've made plenty of Camel Trophy reproduction covers with period-correct yellow base, route maps, and Marlboro / Camel Trophy event graphics.
Do you ship to UK, Australia, South Africa?
Yes — all three are major Defender markets. Free worldwide shipping. About 6–12 business days door-to-door by air freight.
Will the cover survive Australian Outback dust and heat?
Marine Grade Vinyl is built for that. UV stable to 50°C+, Florida-printed, 5+ year lifespan. Australian Defender owners are some of our regular customers.
Can I customize with a Camel Trophy 1991 Tanzania route map?
Yes — Camel Trophy event maps for any year (1980 Sumatra, 1991 Tanzania, 2000 Mongolia, etc.) are popular customizations. Approval-first, free design.
Will the cover fit the L663 Defender Octa?
Yes — Octa runs 275/45R22 stock (31.7 inches). Same spec as V8 Edition One. Standard sizing.
Can I get a British Army NATO-Green olive cover with unit markings?
Yes — we've made covers in NATO-Green, Bronze Green, and SAS Olive with unit numbers and military-spec graphics for restoration and ex-military Defender owners.
How does the cover work with the Adventure Pack rear-mounted spare carrier on L663?
The cover sits on the tire, not the carrier. Adventure Pack carrier doesn't change cover fitment. Standard 32.1" cover works regardless.
Will the cover fit a Bronto or Bowler-modified Defender?
Yes — Bronto, Bowler, and Twisted Defender modifications don't change spare-tire fitment. Sized to the actual tire. Custom sizing free for any aftermarket spec.
Can I customize with a Defender Owners Club International logo?
Yes — DOCI, Land Rover Owner Club, and various national Defender clubs are popular customizations. Approval-first.
