Mercedes G-Wagon Spare Tire Cover Size Guide: W460, W461, W463, W463A
G-Wagon sizing is one of those questions where the answer changes more than you might expect across the lineup. The vehicle has been in continuous production for over four decades, with three or four major design eras, and the spare tire spec has shifted with each one. A 1985 W460 does not take the same cover as a 2024 G63 AMG, even though the tailgate-hinged carrier looks visually identical.
For most buyers in the current market, this comes down to two questions: which generation is the vehicle, and is it lifted or running aftermarket wheels? The answers are almost always the same across the W463 and W463A generations, but the variation matters at the edges.
There is also the AMG question. The G63 and G65 trims with their 22-inch wheel options sit in a slightly different size bracket than the standard G550, and lifted off-road builds running 35-inch all-terrains land in another size again. Modern Mercedes G-Wagons (W463 and W463A, stock 265/60R18 tires) take a 33″ spare tire cover. Vintage W460 and W461 G-Class with 16- or 17-inch wheels typically take 31″ or 32″. Lifted AMG G63 builds on 22-inch wheels or 35-inch off-road tires take 35″.

Backup camera and W463A specifics
Modern W463A G-Wagons (2018 and later) have a factory rear-view camera centered in the spare-tire carrier. The free centered backup-camera hole fits this position exactly. Older W463 vehicles (pre-2018) generally did not have a factory rear camera — if you have added an aftermarket camera, mention the mounting position at checkout and we adjust the cut.

My G63 AMG runs 22-inch wheels. What cover size?
33″ or 35″ depending on the tire spec. Stock G63 22-inch wheels with 295/40R22 tires take 33″. Lifted G63 builds on off-road 35s need 35″.
I have a vintage 1985 W460. What size?
32″ cover. The original W460 spec runs 235/85R16 tires, about 31.7 inches in overall diameter, which rounds to 32″.
