Lada Spare Tire Covers
A Lada spare tire cover from Wheel Shell is a custom-printed, waterproof cover sized for the rear-mounted spare on Lada off-road vehicles — Lada Niva (1.6 / 1.7), Niva Bronto, Niva Legend, Niva Travel, and the Lada 4×4. Built for the climate the Niva was designed for: sub-zero Russian winters, Balkan rural roads, Caucasus mountain trails, and Latin American backcountry. Free centered backup-camera cutout, free worldwide shipping in 6–12 business days.
Built for every Lada Niva generation since 1977
The Lada Niva (originally VAZ-2121) has been in continuous production since 1977 with almost no body change — one of the longest-produced 4×4s in automotive history. Every generation carries the spare on the tailgate or rear bumper, and our covers are sized to fit them all:
- Lada Niva (1977–present, classic body): the original VAZ-2121 silhouette — short wheelbase, 1.6 / 1.7 L engine, factory-mounted spare on the rear hatch. Stock spare typically 175/80R16.
- Niva Legend (2020–present): the rebranded original 1977 design, now sold globally as "Lada Niva Legend." Same spare-tire mount, same 16″ stock size.
- Niva 1600 / 1700 / 1.6 / 1.7: engine-trim variants of the classic Niva — identical body and spare tire mount.
- Lada Niva Bronto (long-wheelbase 5-door): the extended LWB variant for tougher off-road use; rear spare on the back. Often runs slightly larger tires (185/75R16).
- Niva Travel (2020–present, ex-Chevrolet Niva): the modernized SUV variant with a different body but the same Lada DNA; spare typically on the rear hatch or carried inside.
- Lada 4x4 (Western export name for Niva): sold in EU, UK, Australia, and Latin America under the "Lada 4x4" badge; identical to the Niva for cover-fit purposes.

If your Niva runs aftermarket wheels (15″ with all-terrains, or 16″+ with mud-terrains), the cover sizes below cover every real-world fit.
Free backup camera cutout, on every cover
Lada Niva models historically don't ship with a factory backup camera, but many owners add an aftermarket camera mounted on the spare-tire bracket or on the rear hatch. Our covers ship with an optional centered camera-hole cutout at no extra cost — sized for any aftermarket camera position. If you don't run a camera, leave the option set to "no."
To add it, select the "with camera hole" option at checkout. We cut the hole during production — no special order, no surcharge, no production delay.
Lada Niva spare tire sizes
Lada Nivas have one of the most consistent spare-tire setups of any 4×4 line because the body has barely changed since 1977. The most common sizes:

Quick Niva sizing reference:
- Stock Niva / Niva Legend (2121 chassis, factory wheels): 175/80R16 → 27″–28″ cover
- Niva Bronto (LWB): 185/75R16 → 28″–29″ cover
- Lifted Niva on 15″ off-road tires: 205/70R15 or 215/75R15 → 27″–28″ cover
- Niva Travel (modern SUV body): 215/65R16 → 28″–29″ cover
- Lifted overland Niva on 16″+ mud-terrains: 235/75R16 or 31×10.5R15 → 30″–31″ cover
Always size by overall tire diameter (the number on the sidewall like 175/80R16), not rim size. Custom sizing is free at checkout if your Niva runs an unusual wheel/tire combo.
Choose your material
Niva owners drive in some of the harshest climates on earth — Russian winters, Caucasus mountain trails, Balkan rural roads, Mongolian steppe, Latin American jungle. Our material grades are spec'd for those conditions.
Polyester — $69 (Budget)
Lifespan 2–3 years. Drawstring cord attachment. Best for daily Niva drivers parked in covered garages or apartment lots. Lightweight, UV-resistant, easy to remove for tire access.
PVC — $99 (Waterproof)
Lifespan 3–4 years. Elastic band attachment. Best for working Nivas that see weekly mud, brush, snow plowing, or pressure-washing. Fully waterproof, handles abrasion from pine branches and snow chains.
PU Leather — $129 (Premium look)
Lifespan 3–4 years. Elastic band attachment. Closest match for the Niva's matte-black factory trim. Popular for owners who restore classic 2121s and want the cover to read as factory-finish.
Marine Grade Vinyl — $169 (Heavy duty, printed and sewn in Florida)
Lifespan 5+ years. Drawstring cord attachment. The spec we recommend for Russian, Siberian, and Caucasus winters — 1 mm heavy-duty construction rated for −40°C cold-soak, salt road exposure, and heavy snow accumulation. Also handles Latin American humidity and Saharan UV.
Marine Grade Vinyl Lux — $199 (Top spec, printed and sewn in Florida)
Same Marine Grade Vinyl spec plus integrated anti-theft lock — exclusive to Marine Grade Vinyl Lux only. The pick for Nivas parked on the street in cities (Moscow, Belgrade, Tbilisi, São Paulo) where covers occasionally walk off.
Materials built for off-road use
| Material | Price | Lifespan | Durability | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyester Budget | $69 | Up to 2 yrs | Daily driver in covered parking or garage. Lightweight, UV-resistant, easy to swap. | |
| PVC Water-resistant | $99 | Up to 3 yrs | Trail rigs and weekend off-road use. Water-resistant, handles mud and brush scratches well. Clean with mild soap and water. | |
| PU Leather Premium look | $129 | Up to 3 yrs | Daily driver with OEM matte-black aesthetics. Best match for factory finishes on Jeep, G-Wagon, and Ford Bronco. | |
| Marine Grade Vinyl Heavy duty | $169 | Up to 5 yrs | Year-round outdoor parking, coastal humidity, desert sun, Arizona heat, sub-zero winters. 1mm heavy-duty construction, our most durable option. | |
| Marine Grade Vinyl + Anti-Theft Kit Top spec | $199 | Up to 5 yrs | Same Marine Grade Vinyl construction as above, with added locking anti-theft hardware. Best for high-visibility parking and long-term outdoor exposure. |
Cleaning note: Pressure washing is not recommended for any Wheel Shell cover, regardless of material. Hand wash with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly, and air dry. Pressure washing can damage the printed surface and shorten cover lifespan.
Color matching note: Matte PU Leather and Marine Grade Vinyl reproduce factory matte black most accurately. Glossy PVC and Polyester read as deep charcoal under direct sun. For OEM paint-match, send your paint code at checkout — we calibrate the print and send a proof before production.
Color matching: The Niva ships in some iconic AvtoVAZ colors — Beige (Bezhevyy), Khaki / Olive (Khaki), Wild Orchid (Dikaya Orkhideya), Cherry Red (Vishnya), Light Silver (Snezhnaya Koroleva), and the classic White (Ledyanaya). For paint-match on a colored Niva, send the AvtoVAZ paint code at checkout — we calibrate the print and send a proof before production.
How it attaches to a Niva spare
The Niva carries the spare on a swing-out tailgate bracket (classic 2121 / Legend / Bronto) or behind the rear hatch (Niva Travel). Both work the same way for cover installation — slides on in under a minute, no tools or hardware required.
- Elastic band (PU Leather, PVC): Stretches over the tire and grips behind the tread for a snug, factory-style fit. Ideal for Nivas parked outside in windy conditions.
- Drawstring cord (Polyester, Marine Grade Vinyl, Marine Grade Vinyl Lux): Wraps over the tire and tightens with a drawcord. Adjustable for any spare diameter, including non-standard wheel/tire combos common on lifted Nivas.
Both systems stay put at the Niva's top-end speed (around 137 km/h / 85 mph stock) and remove in seconds for tire access on the trail.

Frequently asked questions about Lada Niva covers
Will this fit my classic Lada Niva (VAZ-2121) with stock 16-inch wheels?
Yes. The factory Niva spare on stock 175/80R16 takes a 27″–28″ cover. Choose "28-inch" at checkout if your spare reads "175/80R16" on the sidewall. The cover slides over the swing-out tailgate spare bracket without modification.
Does the cover work on a Niva Bronto (long-wheelbase 5-door)?
Yes. The Bronto runs the same rear-spare setup as the classic Niva but typically with slightly larger tires (185/75R16). Choose 28″–29″ at checkout. The cover fits the Bronto's tailgate-mount bracket without modification.
What about the new Niva Travel (post-2020 SUV body)?
The Niva Travel uses a different body than the classic 2121 but still carries a rear-mounted spare on most trim levels. Stock tire is 215/65R16 — choose 28″–29″ at checkout. If your Travel carries the spare inside the boot rather than externally, the cover doesn't apply.
Will the cover survive a Russian / Siberian winter?
Yes — if you choose Marine Grade Vinyl ($169) or Marine Grade Vinyl Lux ($199 with anti-theft lock). Both are 1 mm heavy-duty construction rated for −40°C cold-soak and prolonged salt-road exposure. Polyester and PVC are not recommended for Siberian / sub-Arctic conditions.
Can I get a design printed in Cyrillic (e.g. "ЛАДА НИВА") or with Niva club graphics?
Yes. We support both Cyrillic and Latin script in custom design proofs — just send the text at checkout (or via email after order). Niva club logos, expedition route maps, AvtoVAZ-style stenciling, and USSR-heritage graphics are all common Niva customizations. Free design proof, no minimum order, approval-first.
How does the cover attach to the Niva's swing-out tailgate spare?
The cover slides over the tire and grips behind the tread (elastic band on PU Leather and PVC) or tightens with a drawcord (Polyester, Marine Grade Vinyl). The Niva's swing-out tailgate bracket doesn't interfere — the cover wraps around the visible face of the spare. Removes in seconds when you need to drop the tailgate or access the spare.
Is the cover waterproof? My Niva is parked outside year-round.
All four base materials — Polyester, PVC, PU Leather, and Marine Grade Vinyl — are waterproof or water-resistant and UV-resistant. For Niva owners with year-round outdoor parking (typical in Russia, Eastern Europe, Caucasus, rural Latin America), Marine Grade Vinyl is the spec we recommend — 5+ year lifespan, printed and sewn in Florida, fade-resistant inks calibrated for prolonged outdoor exposure.
How long does shipping take to Russia, the EU, or Latin America?
Free worldwide shipping, 6–12 business days with tracking. Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, EU member states, UK, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico all within standard delivery window. Customs handling is included in the free-shipping rate.
Does it come with a backup camera cutout?
Yes — free on every cover. Most factory Nivas don't ship with a backup camera, but many owners add aftermarket cameras on the spare-tire bracket or rear hatch. The cover ships with a centered cutout option at no extra cost if you've added one. If you haven't added a camera, leave the option set to "no."
What if I don't like the cover when it arrives?
Free returns and a full refund within 30 days of delivery. No restocking fees, no return-shipping charge. Reach out by email and we'll arrange the return or replacement — no questions asked.
Can I get a paint-match cover for my Niva (Bezhevyy / Khaki / Vishnya / etc.)?
Yes — send the AvtoVAZ paint code or a Pantone reference at checkout (or photo of the body color). We calibrate the print to match and send a proof before production. Common requests: Beige (Bezhevyy), Khaki, Wild Orchid, Cherry Red (Vishnya), and the original 1977 white.
Will the design read clearly from a distance on a small Niva spare (16-inch tire)?
Yes — we calibrate typography size and contrast for the cover diameter (27″–28″ for stock Niva), so the design reads cleanly from across a parking lot or down a trailhead. The proof confirms layout and font size before printing.
